Writer’s Block?

Standard

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I have too many ideas floating around, and then I end up with writer’s block. So how does one get those creative juices flowing again? Well, after I watched a news clip I tried freewriting and came up with a wacky story which is listed below. You might want to try these 7 brainstorming tips to get you started.

Try Freewriting

  • Set a goal of 200 to 500 words
  • Write anything that pops into your brain
  • Don’t evaluate what you write
  • Don’t judge your ideas
  • Don’t organize
  • Don’t go back and rewrite
  • Don’t stop and check your spelling

As you read, try to guess who’s telling the story.

My stomach hurts

No one likes me

Everyone avoids me

I make people scream

I’m stepped on

I’m not allowed anywhere

Let alone a hotel room or a hospital

All I want is to crawl inside a mattress

I want to be left alone

Wait!

What am I doing?

I won’t stand for this brutal treatment one second longer

No sir

You just wait

I’ll find you

You can’t hide

I’ll jump in your suitcase

I’ll jump in your car

I’ll jump on you

Watch out

I bite

Sweet dreams

Don’t let the bed bugs bite

Now sit down and write and then let me know what you came up with.

About Tracy Campbell

Tracy Campbell is a published artist of calendars, wrapping paper, and gift cards, and as an author of how-to-paint magazine articles, her happy heart sings again sharing the work of her hands through "Calm Coloring: Faith, Hope & Love (Art and Soul Therapy for Kids-At-Heart)". When Tracy's not writing, she loves to sharpen pencils, flip open paint lids, and yank off marker caps to create whimsical works of art just for ewe. Her customers say her art is so sweet and warm the designs might leap off the page and land right in your heart. She lives with her supportive hubby and fur baby in Wasaga Beach (the Canadian tourist town known for having the longest freshwater beach in the world). Tracy is also a rare breed dog owner, motorcycle momma, a sinner saved by grace, and a collector of roosters and sheep (thankfully, not live ones).
